Our Recommendations for Cairo & Beyond
A good place for ideas..
I would highly recommend checking out Alex/Sasha’s Instagram page. She is a Russian immigrant who has travelled a lot through Egypt and now runs group tours. You could join one of her tours or workshops – or just use it for inspiration. I also highly recommend the company Walk Like an Egyptian. Their page will give you some ideas of what there is to see even if you don’t join one of their official tours.
Garbage City & Cave Church
Go with a guide so you can learn the history - the locals do not like beingÂ

Grand Egyptian Museum
It is huge so don't try to rush it - tickets must be bought online in advance.
Citadel & Islamic Cairo
The visit during the day doesn't take long and is beautiful, but be sure to drive by at night too.
The Nile
My favourite way to see the Nile is a Felucca ride at sunset. There are some Nile Cruises in Cairo at night, but you will get much nicer Egyptian food elsewhere and there will be plenty dancing at the wedding.
Al-Azhar Mosque & Khan El Khalili
I love these areas both at day and at night. Everybody is welcome to enter the mosque you just need to be fully covered so bring a headscarf and dress appropriately. Khan El Khalili is a chaotic market - bring an Egyptian to help you bargain!
Black & White Desert
This truly was one of my favourite trips! We camped in the desert, had tea by the fire, explored a cave, saw cool rock formation, went dune bashing, and sandboarding. (3 days-2nights). We went with Alex Exploring Egypt.
Luxor & Aswan
This is one for the history lovers. There are so many temples to see, some of which are well preserved. However, you should be warned – it will still be extremely hot at this time of year! There is also an opportunity for a Nile cruise and a hot air balloon ride.
Marsa Alam & Port Ghalib
We snorkeled with dolphins, turtles, and dugongs here. Marsa Alam itself is very small and Port Ghalib is a quiet marina.
Fayoum
Another fantastic taster of life outside the city. A traditional breakfast, a hands-on pottery making experience, and time in the desert.
Abu Tarek & Coptic Cairo
Enjoy some of the church architecture before having lunch in an iconic Cairo restaurant.
Outside of Cairo

These are only the things I have seen myself. Explore Viator and GetYourGuide for more ideas. I have heard amazing things about Siwa Oasis but it's a long drive. I love doing hands on Art & Craft workshops so let me know if you want recommendations.
